1. What is EPI Life?

EPI Life is the world’s first patented mobile ECG device with integrated mobile phone capability that enables the immediate recording and reading of your heart rhythm on the go without the need for any wires. EPI Life is an award-winning technology, designed in Singapore by a leading cardiologist.

Upon recording the ECG, your recordings can be sent to our 24-hour Health Concierge where qualified medical technologists will analyze and respond to your ECG readings by sending a SMS to your EPI Life device.

The EPI Life is also equipped with a health suite function that keeps a record of blood pressure, blood glucose and cholesterol.

2. What is EPI Health Concierge?

EPI Health Concierge is a 24 hours service center staffed by health concierge officers, medical technologists, nurses and doctors. Together, this team responds to your ECGs, arranges your referral requests and connects you to your preferred specialists.

3. What is EPI Virtual Health Folder?

EPI Virtual Health Folder is a personalized and secured web-based account for you to track and monitor your health progress. All ECG recordings, blood pressure, blood glucose and cholesterol sent from your EPI Life are stored in the Virtual Health Folder.

The Virtual Health Folder can be access globally as long as there is internet access.

4. Is it accurate?

Clinical studies have been conducted and the findings were published in the European Heart Journal, one of the three leading clinical heart journals in the world. The results indicate that ECGs recording using the EPI Life is  98% correlated to ECGs recorded by a standard 12-lead ECG machine.

5. What can it detect?

The EPI Life is able to record ECGs which displays the electrical activity of the heart. It is extremely useful for early detection of abnormal heart rhythms and potentially dangerous heart conditions.

6. Can the ECGs be printed out for reference?

You can login to your personal health folder account online via the Internet to view and print your ECGs.

7. How are the ECG recordings being transmitted by EPI Life?

All ECG recordings are sent to our Health Concierge via GPRS. You can use any SIM card from any valid telcommunication providers.

8. Can one device be used for multiple users?

Currently the system is only able to accommodate single user baseline, or a reference ECG to which subsequent ECGs will be compared to. As every users has his unique heart rhythm,our EPI Life is customized for single-user only.

9. What is the main purpose of this device?

Often ECGs are not taken at the time when symptoms or feeling of discomfort occurs. EPI Life enable users to record their ECG during this exact time so that the heart rhythm could be reviewed and the users can refer to physicians at the right time. This is especially useful if the discomfort presented was attributed to underlying heart conditions.

Early detection of heart anomalies can prevent serious and sometimes, fatal situation. The incidence of sudden cardiac deaths (“SCDs”) is on the rise and statistics suggest that SCD claims 1 life every 2 minutes (Source : Heart Rhthym Foundation).

ECG measurements enable a person to monitor one’s heart health, and such monitoring extends to normally healthy person so that the quality of life can be maintained.

10. Are the ECGs read by computer or by actual persons? Who are the people reading the ECGs?

The ECGs are read by medically-trained technologist and a team of on-call specialists.

11. Who are suitable for using this device?

EPI Life is suitable for use by healthy individuals who are mindful of importance of health monitoring. The device become even more useful for patients who may be at higher risk of suffering from heart diseases.

Are you at a higher risk of suffering from heart-related diseases? According to the Singapore Heart Foundation, you are at a higher risk of suffering from heart-related disease if you have one or more of the following conditions:

  • Have a family history of heart diseases
  • Smoke
  • Overweight
  • Have undiagnosed chest pains or palpitations
  • Lack of exercise
  • Have High Blood Pressure
  • Have High Cholesterol Levels
  • Have 1 or more risk factors of Diabetes
  • Hypertension
  • Stressed up

12. Can I send the ECG to my doctor?

The ECG can be sent to your doctor via email or fax as and when requested via our 24-hour Health Concierge. Alternatively, you may give your doctor access to your Virtual Health Folder.

13. Can the device take blood sugar, blood pressure and cholesterol?

The device allows you to input blood sugar, blood pressure and cholesterol measurements which are sent to your virtual health folder for tracking. However, you are still required to take the readings from another medical device to get the readings.

14. Why is it important to monitor my blood cholesterol, blood glucose and blood pressure?

Active monitoring is the most effective preventive measure. Moreover, it allows for early detection of symptoms before your condition turn chronic.

15. Can I use the service overseas?

As long as your SIM card has data roaming facilities, you can use the service overseas. Do note that overseas roaming charges will be applied by your telecommunication provider.

16. What happens when I stop subscribing to the service? Can I still access to all my ECGs?

Online account will be deactivated upon discontinuing the subscription to the service. You can continue to use the phone but without the SMS reply for any ECGs recorded.

17. Which countries would I not be able to use this device in?

The current model of EPI Life is Dual-band GSM900/1800 which is fully functional in the presence of a GSM900/1800 network with GPRS. GSM-900 and GSM-1800 are used in most parts of the world: Europe, Middle East, Africa, Australia, Oceania (and most of Asia).

In South and Central America the following countries use the following:

  • Peru – GSM-1900
  • Costa Rica – GSM-1800
  • Brazil – GSM-850, 900, 1800 and 1900
  • Guatemala – GSM-850, GSM-900 and 1900
  • El Salvador – GSM-850, GSM-900 and 1900

The only exceptions are North America, parts of South and Central America, Japan and South Korea, where GSM 900/1800 is unavailable.
